Broad arts spectrum
The arts are well represented in the county. There are almost 100 libraries, of which at least one in each local council district.
Theatre
Västerbotten County Theatre is located in Skellefteå. In Umeå there are two independent drama companies, Ögonblicksteatern and Profilteatern. Both are travelling companies, putting on plays for both young and old in the whole county.
Opera

Museum of Images
Umeå also has the County Museum and the Museum of Images. Skellefteå has its museum and the Forest Museum is in Lycksele. Norsjö has a Museum of Skiing.
Film
In the world of film, Västerbotten is a regional resource centre for films and videos, whose mission is to spotlight films in the county, with a special emphasis on childrens and young peoples needs. In the county there are 37 cinemas with in all 50 auditoria. In 2001, more than 561,708 cinema tickets were sold in the county.
Jazz
Every year a jazz festival featuring international artists takes place in Umeå. Other festivals feature chamber music, films, folk music and puppet theatre. In Nordmaling, there is a baroque music festival every other year.
Arts associations and amateur activities add to the range of arts activities.
Rock
The county has a rich and thriving flora of young peoples music and young recording artists. Local products includes Sahara Hotnights and Wannadies.
